Anthony (Tony) V. Lupo is an American attorney[1] and chair of ArentFox Schiff.[2] He has been called the "father of fashion law,"[3] and has testified before the United States Congress.[4] Since 2021, Lupo has served as chair of ArentFox Schiff, leading[5] the firm into the Am Law 100[6] with the 2022 merger with Schiff Hardin[7] and overseeing initiatives related to artificial intelligence.[8]

Career

Lupo founded ArentFox Schiff's fashion law practice[9] more than two decades ago,[10] expanding it to a team of 65 attorneys.[11] Clients have included Yves Saint Laurent, Gucci, Victoria's Secret, Lacoste, Balenciaga, Diesel, Versace and other international brands.[10][12][3]

As head of the Fashion and Retail Law practice, Lupo runs the Fashion Counsel blog,[13] where he writes about fashion law and interviews industry figures such as Diane von Fürstenberg[14] and Christopher John Rogers,[15] and fashion executives like Yves Saint Laurent CFO Eduardo Perez[16] and Kering Americas VP Rich Naranjo.[17][18]

In addition to his work in fashion law, Lupo represents clients in entertainment and technology, with Law360 calling him a "Swiss Army knife with a law degree"[19] and The Washington Post writing that he "has made a career out of breaking the mold of a typical D.C. regulatory lawyer."[20]

Lupo's tech and entertainment clients include Warner Bros. Discovery,[21] Tesla, PlayStation and the Oprah Winfrey Network.[22][5] Notably, Lupo has worked with Steve Jobs at both Pixar and Apple. Specifically, he helped secure Apple's rights to the iMac,[20] iBook[23] and iTunes[24] trademark.[20] At Pixar, Lupo cleared intellectual property rights for films including WALL-E, Cars and Ratatouille.[19]

Recognition

Lupo has been recognized by Washingtonian as "Washington's most fashionable man,"[25] with one of "D.C.'s coolest jobs."[26]
