Amalia Phoebe López Rodríguez (born December 6, 2005) is a professional soccer player who plays as a midfielder for Liga MX Femenil club Guadalajara. Born in the United States, she has been called up to the Mexico and United States youth national teams.
Early life
López was born in Dallas, Texas, to Mexican parents.[1] She got into soccer through indoor soccer and futsal at a young age.[2] She joined local club Alianza de Futbol before playing ECNL soccer for the Dallas Texans, where earned all-conference honors twice.[3][4] In her junior year at North Mesquite High School, she scored 39 goals with 13 assists, accounting for more than half of her team's offense. In her senior year, she scored 52 goals with 13 assists and led the team to its first district title in 20 years. She was named the District 12-5A most valuable player in both 2023 and 2024.[5][6] Before going to Guadalajara, López was committed to play college soccer at Colorado State University.[3]
Club career
Guadalajara
López joined Liga MX Femenil club Guadalajara in the summer of 2024.[7] She had interest from other teams in the league, briefly training with Pachuca.[7][8] Lopez made her first-team debut for Chivas on September 2, 2024, playing six minutes in a 2–0 loss to Toluca.[9] She scored her first professional goal six days later, sparking a 3–1 come-from-behind victory over Necaxa.[10] However, she spent most of the 2024 Apertura with the club's under-19 side, scoring 5 goals in 11 games and helping the team to the quarterfinals.[2] Afterwards, she moved into the first team on a permanent basis, scoring in the opening matchday of the 2025 Clausura.[2][11]
International career
López was called up to the Mexico under-17 team in 2022 and the under-20 team in 2023.[5][12] In June 2025, she was called up to the United States under-20 team but was unable to attend the camp due to preseason with Guadalajara.[13]
