Aleksandr Golovin (Russian: Александр Сергеевич Головин, born 18 September 1995) is a Russian Greco-Roman wrestler who competes in the 97 kg weight class. He is a bronze medalist at both the 2019 European Games and the 2020 European Wrestling Championships. Golovin is also a two-time U23 World Champion and has won multiple national medals in Russia.

Career

Golovin began wrestling at the age of seven and became serious about the sport by age 14. He joined the Russian youth national team at 17.[1]

In 2016, Golovin won a silver medal at the Wrestling World Cup held in Shiraz, competing in the 97 kg category.[2]

He claimed a bronze medal at the 2019 European Games in Minsk.[3]

At the 2020 European Wrestling Championships in Rome, Golovin earned another bronze after defeating Czech wrestler Artur Omarov in the bronze medal match.[4]

In addition to his senior-level success, Golovin is a decorated age-group wrestler. He won gold at the U23 World Championships in 2017 (Bydgoszcz) and 2018 (Bucharest), and the U23 European Championships in 2018 (Istanbul).[5]

In 2021, he won the gold medal at the Military World Wrestling Championships in Tehran.[2]

Domestically, Golovin is the 2020 Russian national champion and has placed second in six other editions (2017, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024).[6]
