Aldo Kane is a British adventurer, television presenter, author, and former Royal Marines Commando sniper. He is known for providing safety expertise and appearing on screen in extreme‑environment documentaries and survival‑based television series. Kane has worked alongside major film crews and actors, including Will Smith, Tom Hardy, and Henry Cavill, and has appeared on the BBC, Channel 4, and National Geographic.
Early life and military career
Kane was born in Kilwinning, North Ayrshire, Scotland, and grew up in Kilbirnie. He joined the Royal Marines at age 16 and became one of the youngest snipers in the UK military. During his military service, he served in high‑risk combat zones, including Northern Ireland and Iraq.[1]
Career
After leaving the military, Kane retrained in rope access and technical safety, eventually founding a company advising crews filming in extreme or hostile environments.[2] He became known for his risk‑management expertise and supported documentary crews on expeditions through active volcanoes, remote jungles, polar regions, and oceans.
He has worked on screen with presenters such as Steve Backshall in Expedition and Extreme Mountain Challenge, and appeared in National Geographic series including One Strange Rock and Welcome to Earth, hosted by Will Smith.[3]
Kane also featured on OceanXplorers, a six‑part underwater discovery series from National Geographic and BBC Studios, executive produced and narrated by James Cameron as part of OceanX programming. The show premiered in August 2024 and included missions across the Atlantic, Caribbean, Azores, and Arctic aboard the research vessel *OceanXplorer*, featuring Kane alongside marine scientists and explorers.[4][5][6] In interviews, Kane discussed working with James Cameron and his team on deep‑sea missions, including shark tagging and polar bear observations, emphasizing a mix of exploration, science, and safety leadership.[7]
Kane’s approach to physical and psychological resilience has also been profiled in lifestyle and fitness outlets. He has spoken openly about managing stress and fear under pressure, drawing on lessons learned from his military and expedition experience.[8]
Publications
In 2021, Kane released his first book, Lessons from the Edge: Inspirational Tales of Surviving, Thriving and Extreme Adventure, blending memoir with motivational insights from his work across war zones and wilderness settings.
