Alain de Buckland or Alan of Bucklande (1045 – 1108) was a Norman soldier and settler of Kent, England during the Norman Conquest. He was appointed as the High Sheriff of Kent from 1067 through 1070.
Biography
Very little is known about Alain's life, however we know that his father Hugh de Caudebec was killed during the Norman Conquest. Alain and his three brothers were all gifted sheriffdoms, of which Alain became the High Sheriff of Kent in 1067.[1] By the 1070s Alain became the Lord of the Manor of Great Buckland.[2]
He was married to Mrs Allen de Buckland and they would have at least two sons. One also named Alain in 1071 and William Buckland in 1073.
