The 1998 Ealing Council election took place on 7 May 1998 to elect members of Ealing London Borough Council in London, England. The whole council was up for election and the Labour party stayed in overall control of the council.[2]
Background
The composition of the council didn't change much since the election in 1994.
There were four by-elections, with only the Argyle by-election resulting in a seat changing parties, with it changing from Conservative to Labour.[3] In addition to these by-elections, Cllr. Neal G. Underwood changed allegiance from Labour to the Green Party and one seat was left vacant shortly before the 1998 election.
As a result of these changes, the composition of the council just before the election was as follows:[4]

The election was a victory for the ruling Labour Party, increasing the number of seats they held by five. The Green Party lost its only seat, which it had gained through a defection in the intervening years, with Labour regaining the seat.
