- April 2 - Assassination attempt on Tsar Alexander II by Alexander Soloviev. Soloviev shot four times from his gun but failed to hit Alexander II.[1]

- August 15 - The revolutionary organization Land and Liberty split into the terrorist wing Narodnaya Volya and the political wing Black Repartition.[3]
